ATECH AT Academy offers comprehensive instruction and hands-on training to help Assistive Technology and related services professionals build foundational competencies. With an expanding set of new devices and applications, Assistive Technology is bringing exciting opportunities to help those with disabilities lead productive, fulfilling lives. Your role as a professional delivering assistive technology services is the vital link between the promise of these technologies and people striving for increased independence and better care.

In this comprehensive
course you will learn:

  • Ways to successfully implement Assistive Technology through the processes of Consideration, Assessment, Implementation, and Ongoing Monitoring
  • Best practices, tools, and frameworks for impactful, consistent service delivery
  • Up-to-date information on a wide range of assistive technology tools: mobile devices, apps, AAC, literacy, sensory, executive function, and social interaction tools and applications.
  • How to build an assistive technology team
  • How to create your own Personal/Professional Learning Network (PLN) to support your professional development

Online Course Structure and Fees:
The course takes place over two months and consists of

  • live interactive and coaching webinars (see curriculum here)
  • recorded online learning modules that can be completed at your own pace
  • hands-on learning within a private workshop website
  • collaborative group activities and shared feedback
  • planning and completion of your own AT application project

Course fees:

$200 for members

$375 for nonmembers

  • Fees include all course materials and access to private website and networking group.
  • The course also includes open opportunities to email and work personally with instructor Mike Marotta.

About the Trainer: Mike Marotta

Mike Marotta is an ATP who has been in the field for over 30 years. A RESNA Certified Assistive Technology Professional, Mike was named as the ISTE Inclusive Learning Network 2017 Outstanding Educator. An internationally recognized presenter, Mike’s expertise is in providing in-depth, practical training to AT professionals. In addition to running his own technology consulting firm, Inclusive Technology Solutions LLC., Mike is an adjunct professor at California State University, Northridge, CA, Ramapo College of New Jersey, and Felican University, teaching courses for pre-service teachers and Masters-level educators in Assistive Technology and Universal Design for Learning. Mike serves on the CAST Accessible Educational Materials Advisory Board and is the Director of the Richard West Assistive Technology Center at Disability Rights New Jersey

About the ATECH Center

The Assistive Technology Training Center (ATECH) is a 501(c) 3 organization that exists to serve human service agencies supporting people with barriers to independence.

ATECH is a hub of knowledge and expertise for staff training in the use and application of technology to reduce barriers and increase the independence of individuals with intellectual and developmental, physical, and cognitive disabilities.

The ATECH Academy was born out of the recognized need to better support ATPs to develop themselves, so that they in turn can provide effective, caring, and compassionate AT services to others.

ATECH, together with our parent organization, Midstate ARC, a 501(c)(3) organization, use funds we raise from this paid course to support our mission by providing revenue to sustain our operations and expand our reach.
